wah wah wah

You know those days when it seems like there is just one giant grey cloud of doom following your every footstep directly overhead? Yea. It's one of those days for me. Nothing majorly wrong, just a whole lot of little things. My mood has been all gloom and doom since I got out of bed this morning. Just one of those days.

Remember when I mentioned in this post that the Air Force Birthday Ball is coming up in the middle of October and I had nothing to wear? Well, I found a cute dress from J. Crew that I was going to get. My body is hard to fit (big chest, super curvy, short) and I hate shopping online since things never fit me right. I have not been able to find anything here that I liked, so online was my only option. TLS and I went to the tailor at Military Clothing to get myself measured so I could see what size dress I should order. Well, I don't know if the tailor took my measurements wrong or what, but according to her measurements, I should get a size 22! Size twenty-freaking-two.

While yes, I am realistic and knowing that the last pair of jeans I bought was a size 8 (about 2 weeks ago), and being that I did not gain 70 pounds in less than a month, I realize that I could, in no way, be a size 22, but just seeing those numbers on the sheet did something to me. I have always had body image issues and after looking at the sheet and the size charts, I'm just sitting here crying. Ironically enough, all I want to do is eat an entire pint of Ben and Jerry's to make myself feel better.

  1. I have the same black cloud issue and I think a pint of ice cream sounds AMAZING!

  2. You're super busty, right? So they probably fitted you to the largest part of your body (your chest) so that it fits all part of you. I have that problem too. Whenever I get sized for something, they tell me I should order a Large (um, hello, I'm 5'1 over here) because of the size of my chest. Well, then, the chest is going to be the only part that fits me!! It's really frustrating, and depressing. It's easy to say that you shouldn't let it bother you since you KNOW you are nowhere near a size 22 but I would be feeling the exact same way. I say, eat the damn ice cream, or don't, but don't NOT do it because someone with a measuring tape wrote a silly number on a piece of paper. I'm sure you'll find something beautiful to wear in your proper size.

  3. Focus on the postive :)

I know, I know...shut up T. I'm having a crap day too, but I'm trying sooooo hard to focus on the positive.

Order an 8 and call it a day pretty girl!

  4. I started sewing a dress last week and when I went to pick out the pattern size, the lady at the fabric store told me I needed a size 18. I'm 5'3 and weigh 125. People are jacked up. Order the size that you think will fit you best. (and enjoy your ice cream! I am going to dig into my Moose Tracks when I get home)

  5. Every single time I order clothing based on measurements, the clothes end up being ENORMOUS!! Like I spend just as much to get them made smaller (as this always happens with bridesmaid dresses). They base your dress size on your largest measurement. Which for me is my bust. But I can fit into normal size clothing- I ceratinly do not need to buy big and tall. So I tend to order from the same stores over and over as I know how their sizing typically runs. If you know you are between two sizes, just order the larger size. You can always have a few darts added if you need it taken in.

  6. I sort of have mixed emotions about this post. I am sorry your having such a bad day, I am right there with you. But I guess Im a little hurt by your post too. I am a size 22, and I know for sure that your not a 22, not even close. But it does hurt when I see someone be so hurt by being my size. I guess it would be like you seeing a size 2 girl be upset because she was measured to be a size 8. Im not mad, but just remember, there are people out there who are a size 22.

Im working on your box of goodies - sorry its taking so long. Money is tight so I have to shop when I can. Anything you want specifically?

  7. You know you aren't a size 22! Order your regular size, take a picture of you rocking it, and send it to the person who "measured" you as a 22 along with a note suggesting they find a new job. I hope your dark cloud leaves you soon! You have to post a picture of the dress you're considering!

  9. you know I don't think anywhere measurese properly these days. It's the same with Bras - I can go to 5 different places to be measured and get 5 different answers - same with the clothes!

Enjoy the Icecream - forget about the day and try somewhere else

  10. Maybe she was fitting you for European sizes--I know a 6 in Euro sizes is like 18 or so, so it seems that an 8 would be 22. I think you'll be ok ordering an 8, since that's what size you really are. I can understand how seeing that number on the size sheet would put a damper on your day. Ben & Jerry's is definitely the best for cheering up!

  11. Did she measure you in centemeters instead of inches? (Seriously).

BTW I don't know if you have ever watched Arrested Development but there are a handful of episodes wherein one of the characters gets shot down or misses an opportunity or whatever and then cut to them walking very slow, dragging their feet, head very low and that slow Charlie Brown music over it. It makes me think of you.

  12. As others have advised, order your usual size. You KNOW that you're not a size 22.

  17. That's Crazy!!! You should remeasure yourself or take that picture back to the tailor and see if she can copy it for you! A lot of tailors make clothes too. Then you will have an original that no one else has and forget the size chart!

  18. He/she may have measured in centimeters, not inches. That is fairly common for European tailors. (I've worked with quite a few in my past career.)
