a little stunned

I just found out last night that a sorority sister and dear friend has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She is really young, in her thirties. She was supposed to move to another country for work, but had to cancel that so that she could get chemo and on getting herself better. I would love to go to DC to be there with her for chemo, but it is on Wednesdays, and with me being so far away, I'm not sure if that can happen. I sent her a card and wanted to send her a care package to let her know that she's in my prayers, but I'm not sure what to send. If you were sick, or if you can speak from personal experience, what would you want to receive? She loves tea and hot cocoa, so I will definitely be bringing some things for her from England. I also found these great ginger candies for my mom when she was going through chemo, and she said they helped with the nausea, so I will be sending her some of that. Any other recommendations? I'm still way in shock about this.

  4. this is so sad. I would just want to sit with her, and hold her hand. I think that face to face contact is the best, but if you cant be there, the care package is a great thought!!!!! xxxxooo

  5. I hope your friend is ok! This is a very very highly survivable form of cancer.

PreggoPops might help her. Jelly beans and any other kind of candy helps with the ickiness brought on by chemo.

  7. Your poor friend. I would send her something to pamper herself. Like a great body lotion or a handcream.

  8. Magazines and chocolates. You should talk to Miss Cancer sucks. She has been through Chemo and I am sure she would be a ton of help.

  10. Oh how terrible! I've found that cancer patients so appreciate gift cards for meal deliveries and itunes. I know they are not very fun but they really help when she is just too tired to cook at night.

  11. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend! What a great idea with a care package. Maybe a nice journal so she can use it to get her feelings out as I'm sure there are just too many!

  12. Send her cute socks because hospitals are cold. I also liked Preppy 101's idea of an itunes giftcard. A nice blanket would also be a lovely gift.

  13. iTunes giftcard is a GREAT idea! When my little sis was in the hospital for 6 months+, I would send her postcards and just funny cards in general to lift her spirits.

  14. That is so sad that someone so young is having to go through such a horrible ordeal. I'm sure that she will really like just knowing that you are thinking about and praying from her. I'm sure anything funny that she likes magazines or books as previous commenters have suggested.

I had a friend I knew threw summer camp that was diagnosed with breast cancer young and we did a "hat parade" for her on facebook. Everyone took a picture of themself in a favorite hat and posted it to the group. I think it was a good way for a large group of people who were spread out all over the country to show their support.

I'll be thinking about and praying for you and your friend.

  15. She may or may not be interested in this, but there's a company called Bake Me A Wish - www.bakemeawish.com - which sends delicious, (kosher) cakes for all occasions. I heard about it because a friend sent me a birthday cake. She said that part of the proceeds get donated to cancer research (which I couldn't find right now while looking at the website.)

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Hopefully they caught it at an early stage, and she'll get all the treatment she needs.
